Why Run Free fields are so important for reactive dogs

For many dogs, a walk in the park is pure joy. But for reactive dogs, it can be stressful and unpredictable. Whether their reactions come from fear, excitement or past experiences, busy public spaces can make it hard for them to relax and enjoy being outside.

That’s where our Run Free enclosed dog fields make such a difference. A private, secure space gives reactive dogs the chance to stretch their legs, play, and just be dogs without the worry of unexpected encounters.

We offer a variety of fields to suit different dogs and enrich their visits, from open grassy spaces to woodland areas and play fields with equipment. Each provides a different experience, helping dogs build confidence and stay mentally stimulated.

We also have a 5 minute gap between bookings to make sure dogs can enter and leave without pressure, helping reactive dogs stay relaxed and confident.

To keep visits calm and enjoyable for everyone, we have a few simple rules in place which can make a big difference to a reactive dog’s experience:

  • Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your booked time. Turning up early can mean crossing paths with another dog who might be anxious or reactive.
  • Stay in your car with your dog until the previous customer has vacated the field and left the site. This avoids any unexpected meetings in the car park or entrance area.
  • Leave the field and the site promptly at the end of your booking. This allows the next visitor to enjoy the same calm experience.
  • If there are ever any problems, please call us straight away so we can help.

If you are bringing a reactive dog for the first time, a few small touches can make the experience even better. Bring a favourite toy or blanket to help your dog feel settled. Start with a calm walk or gentle sniffing before play to let them take in the new smells and surroundings. Keep treats handy for recall and rewards, and always finish the session on a positive note so they leave feeling relaxed and happy.

At Run Free, we believe every dog deserves the chance to enjoy safe, happy exercise without fear or stress. Our enclosed fields, careful scheduling and thoughtful approach all help your dog to feel calm and secure and to enjoy their time running free.
